The Global Education Week (GEW) is an international awareness-raising initiative supporting civic engagement, global solidarity and active citizenship for sustainable development. It is organised in the framework of iLEGEND III, a joint project co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The 2026 edition focuses on critical thinking and engaging with different perspectives as a way to challenge narratives, support democratic culture and encourage concrete action through global education. Activities can take place anywhere: in your school, classroom, organisation, in person or online! EFIL proudly participates in the campaign as an international coordinator and member of the Global Education Network of the North-South Center of the Council of Europe through our own and our members’ activities on peace and citizenship education.

PEACE Camp 2026
The PEACE (Peace through Exchange and Active Citizenship Education) programme offers a three-month exchange experience for 15-18 year-old high school students, twice a year. Operated by AFS organisations across Europe, the programme focuses on Active Global Citizenship. At the end of their exchange, participants attend the PEACE Camp in Belgium, coordinated by EFIL and AFS volunteers. Here, they reflect on their experiences, connect with peers, and engage in workshops covering active citizenship, identity, and global citizenship education topics.
Initiating at the end of the GEW 2026, the PEACE Camp 2026 (27 November – 4 December) will gather around 270 participants and 50 young non-formal educators (AFS volunteers) who assist with the preparation of the youth camp and deliver workshops on civic participation, critical awareness, cultural identity and more.

Intercultural Classrooms: 2nd Online Teacher Meet-Up
The new online teacher course of EFIL “Intercultural Classrooms: Assessing Learning Mobility“ is officially live! Running from 19 October to 31 December on the AFS Learning Platform, the course focuses on internationalising school education and measuring the critical transversal competences developed through long-term individual pupil mobility. We are proud to welcome an initial cohort of around 45 secondary school teachers and school staff from 7 European countries. In celebration of the Global Education Week 2026, we are hosting the 2nd Online Teacher Meet-Up to explore how educators can foster open, globally connected mindsets and leverage the full educational potential of pupil mobility.
