In May 2016, for the second time, the European Parliament will open its doors of young people from all over the EU and invite them to the house of European Democracy. During two days they will exchange ideas and perspectives for the future of Europe.

EYE2

The European Youth Event (EYE) will be exceptional, by its scope, 7000 of young people, and its premises, the official building of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg. To offer the perfect mix for a meaningful and enjoyable event, the European Youth Event will feature ideas laboratories, political debates, role-play games, concerts.

The programme is built around five themes:

  • War and Peace: Perspectives for a Peaceful Planet
  • Apathy or Participation: Agenda for a Vibrant Democracy
  • Exclusion or Access: Crackdown on Youth Unemployment
  • Stagnation or Innovation: Tomorrow’s World of Work
  • Collapse or Success: New Ways for a Sustainable Europe

The European Youth Forum , will be again the core partner of the European Parliament in organising this important event. They will bring the highly successful YO!Fest to Strasbourg in the Yo!Village, combining high-level political and educational activities with a festival atmosphere.
EFIL has been selected, together with other 50 youth organisations, to be a co-partner of the EYE and thus we will recruit a group of 20 participants and bring activities to the EP and the Yo!Village. Within EYE, EFIL will co-organise with EEE-YFU a debate of the recognition by schools of the study period abroad of exchange students, and we will offer workshops on the topic of active citizenship based on the ACTIVE project and on Building peaceful societies, EFIL’s theme for 2016.

Representatives from the 50 youth organisations met in Brussels on 23-25 October to shape the event together, come up with joint activities and bring the youth perspective to the five topics that were chosen by the European Parliament.

EYE

The EFIL Preparatory team for the EYE is already at work: Alexandra Ruivo Cordeiro (EFIL/AFS Portugal), Staša Stojkov (AFS Serbia), Viktoria Bedo (AFS France/Hungary) and Elisa Briga (EFIL Advocacy coordinator). We are now recruiting participants and hope to have a diverse group of young AFS volunteers that take this as their first chance to get to know active European citizenship!
