The Austrian Presidency of the European Union organised an event aimed at gathering the voice of youth on the topic of gender equality. The conference took place on 10-11 October in Vienna and EFIL’s representative Rafael Sue (AFS Germany) was present, together with other 250 people. Participants exchanged on 11 topics related to gender equality. What we have learned is that in order to promote gender equality in society, AFS can start from its own exchange programmes: we need to ensure that within the intercultural encounters we organise we offer always a safe space where people can talk to somebody they trust and get support and protection in case situations of gender based discrimination and sexual harassment arise. We are glad AFS can already offer a very well developed support and risk management system, and we are always looking for ways to further improve it.
