EFIL has been following the cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) in the field of youth. Last year EFIL’s representative Alexandra Singpiel (AFS Germany) took part in the EU-AU Youth Plug Initiative, and this year Rafael Sue (AFS Germany) attended the EU-AU Civil society seminar on Human rights in Brussels.

The event gathered representatives of youth organisations from Europe and Africa, as well as NGOs such as Amnesty International and Féderation Internationale des Droits de l’Homme (FIDH). The objective of the meeting was to share best practices among participants about the promotion of human rights by civil society organisations, and draft recommendations for policy makers on how to strengthen youth movements in civil society, in particular looking at the increasing phenomenon of shrinking space for civil society.

The cooperation between EU and AU on these topics continue, especially through the AU-EU youth cooperation Hub.
