In each edition of EFILife, we dedicate some space to partner news, including personnel changes as well as relevant events that have taken place over the past months.
On 24 November, AFS Netherlands celebrated its 70th anniversary in the form of a conference, with over 70 returnees, volunteers and members of staff. Ronald Leopold, director of the Anne Frank Foundation, gave an inspiring speech about peace and tolerance, whereas Prof. Dr. Lucas Meijs of Erasmus University Rotterdam spoke about the value of volunteers and about how to attract and retain volunteers. All returnees, whether they were on exchange in 1957 or 2016, shared the feeling that AFS has played a very important role in shaping their lives.
