As a result the increasing cooperation between EFIL and the Association of Teacher Education in Europe-ATEE, EFIL’s Head of Advocacy, Elisa Briga, attended the ATEE Spring Conference in Bialystock, Poland on 7-9 June 2018.  The conference was centred around the theme ‘Designing Teacher Education and Professional Development for the 21st century’ and EFIL presented the Case study of the Erasmus+ project ‘Intercultural Learning for Pupils and Teachers’ within the track ‘Teacher Education for Diversity’. EFIL was also introduced at the meeting of the ATEE Research and Development Committees.

The conference was very interesting and the keynote speeches of Amélia Lopes (Full Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto, Portugal), Gracienne Lauwers (professor at the Free University of Brussels, Belgium) and Hana Červinková (Associate Professor of Anthropology and Education at the University of Lower Silesia, Wroclaw, Poland) underlined the important of intercultural learning within education, and the key role teachers play in promoting this.

Following the closer links developed with ATEE, Hazar Yildirim from AFS Intercultural Programs featured as a speaker at their Annual Conference ‘A future for all – teaching for a sustainable society’ in Gävle, Sweden on 20-22 August 2018.

We are looking forward for further cooperation to advance intercultural learning in teacher education.
