Volunteers are the lifeblood of AFS. To honour their commitment and help them maximise the impact they have on the organisation, we have a duty to offer them the best training available.
All trainings are organised in a spirit of intercultural learning and mutual understanding and are prepared by multicultural teams comprising expert volunteers from EFIL and its Member Organisations. Intrinsic to all seminars is the motivation they offer by adding an intercultural touch to the daily volunteer work: the opportunity to share local and national practices, good examples and frustrations with fellow volunteers is a highly appreciated bonus.

The EFIL Training and Sharing activities are developed in conjunction with the EFIL Member Organisations. A Training Advisory Body supports the development and the implementation of the trainings, as coordinated by the EFIL Secretariat.
Our training programme addresses a variety of topics and audiences:
- Seminars for Young AFS Volunteers and staff
- Training for Trainers for AFS Volunteers and Staff Members
- Seminars for Teachers and Headteachers
- Pool of Travelling Trainers
It is the quality presence of Member Organisations in the implementation of funded activities and programmes, their contribution of resources, trainers, ideas and practices or their participation in lobbying efforts that is and remains the hallmark of EFIL.
AFS has developed a unique know-how in organising and supporting the development of young people and the intercultural learning of all those that participate in our exchange programmes. The inter-dependent nature of our activities makes the sharing of practices and know-how one of the most important investments that our organisations can make to address quality and continuity in all aspects of our work.
