All Members of European Federation for Intercultural Learning are voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organisations providing intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world. EFIL Member Organisations participate in a network of 51 partner organisations with operations covering 80 countries worldwide.
AFS traces its roots back to volunteer ambulance drivers who provided their services during the two world wars. In 1947, acting from a belief that understanding makes war impossible, they set up AFS Intercultural Programmes to start youth exchanges.
